Cattaneo Corporate Finance has advised KIBOU on raising a significant debt funding package to support its continued UK expansion.
KIBOU Japanese Kitchen & Bar has raised a significant debt funding package to support the next phase of its UK growth strategy.
Cattaneo sourced new facilities from HSBC UK which provide additional growth capital to fund the fit-out of two new restaurant sites whilst also refinancing existing debt. The first site will be KIBOU’s recently announced Birmingham restaurant on Temple Row in the Colmore Business District followed by a new location in Covent Garden in London.
Established by Regent Inns founder David Franks, KIBOU has developed a distinctive premium Japanese dining concept, combining handmade sushi, sashimi, ramen, tempura, bao buns, gyoza and Japanese-inspired drinks with bold interiors and site-specific artwork. The Birmingham opening will be the group’s seventh restaurant, adding to its existing sites in London, Cheltenham, Bristol, Cambridge, Oxford and Solihull.
The Temple Row restaurant is expected to open in autumn 2026 and will accommodate up to 200 covers across a bar and lounge, open sushi kitchen, main restaurant and private dining space. The opening follows KIBOU’s strongest trading year on record and represents a step change in the company’s expansion plans.
The Cattaneo team of Richard Newman and Seth Khag advised KIBOU on debt structuring, selecting and approaching funders and negotiating the facility package to deliver a flexible funding solution that supports both the refinancing and the roll-out of the new restaurants.
Sam Horswill, Managing Director of KIBOU, said:
“Following a period of exceptional growth, our new openings mark an exciting chapter for KIBOU. The funding package provides the platform to continue investing in the quality of our restaurants, our teams and our guest experience, as we bring KIBOU to new locations. The Cattaneo team impressed us with their ability to source competitive debt facilities for us on a timely basis that matched exactly what we needed at this exciting point in our development.”
Richard Newman of Cattaneo Corporate Finance added:
“KIBOU has built a high-quality, differentiated restaurant concept with a loyal customer base and a strong platform for growth. We are delighted to have advised on securing a significant funding package from HSBC which meets KIBOU’s needs and matches its ambition.”
The transaction adds to Cattaneo’s recent track record of advising high-growth businesses across the consumer, leisure and hospitality sectors on funding, acquisitions, disposals and management buy-outs.
